A Must See – Coco before Chanel

Posted in beauty, designer, Fashionista, inspiration by fashionista514 on October 14, 2009
So last night I was finally able to indulge in a long awaited movie night… and man have I been lusting, drooling, and pulling my hair out in anticipation for this movie to come out. Coco before Chanel. The life story of the woman who brought menswear to women. Breathability, simplicity and function in a time where corsets and overly lavish accessories reigned. The beauty of difference. The personality of dress.
The beautiful, and insanely talented Audrey Tatou plays her in the movie that focuses on where she came from and how she adopted many of her signature looks and styles. What I think I loved the most is how they pointed out where she got her inspiration from and how she transformed it into something completely unique and fresh… completely ahead of her time.

The other very relateable emotional undertone of this movie is independance and love. Mostly a mixture of the two. Being able to fully indulge in a romance without social fences and boundaries, as well as stand apart as a woman from a man. It seems her life was about survival of the key emotional ingredients… love, independance, success and pride. She did all of the above in the most unconventional of ways… yet always remained a cut above the rest when performing it all in an elegant and classy way.

Leaving the theatre made me smile… even though Chanel was born in 1883, she still holds a one-up on even today’s generation. Walking out of a film filled with natural beauty, sophistication and pure elegance into a theatre filled with women in sweatpants and sneakers… just goes to show that she is STILL far ahead of her time.

Please go see this movie. It will breathe creative life into your everyday existence!

Dearest Hater…

So here is a comment I received in response to my last blog post…

Anonymous said…
“You should consider yourself ridiculously lucky that you even have the option of thinking of going to a spa while you are in a developing world where children do not have the option to even see a doctor. Talk about needs. Your coach booties could probably comfortably feed a family for one month possilby more. My suggestion? Quit complaining and realize that you are not there for yourself but are there for those that need your help. Or else get the fuck out and quit blogging like you care about anything else but a free trip. But don’t worry, I’ll still be reading your trainwreck of a blog. It is ridiculously entertaining.”

Now I don’t usually waste my time on Haters, but this comment seemed amusing enough to address…

First up… I DO consider myself to be EXTREMELY priviledged in this life I lead. I never take it or anything around it for granted. So you all know (as I realize this may not always be clear) everything I have, I have worked for. My clothes, my lifestyle, my freedoms. So please knock off the whole judging me as a spoiled brat princess who gets everything handed to her shit. It’s really getting pretty old. I do what I can for those who are in need to the best of my ability. Same goes for back home, and in life in general. Yes, I am human and I DO bitch. When I am jetlagged, tired, on the rag and feeling sick I am not at my best. Does that take away from my efforts of helping pass 600 people a day and giving them eyesight? Does that make me have to live my life in modesty when I can experience and enjoy things that others can’t? I would think of myself as MORE of a fool if I didn’t take advantage of everything my life has to offer. It would be a life half lived. A life wasted. A life someone else could have lived to the fullest. As for the spa… I’m a girl… tell me… really what do you expect? You obviously have never been… I think you too would change your mind about “allowing yourself” to fantasize about them when you were feeling under the weather if you just tried it out already 😉 I never once mentioned it being my priority… just something I can’t wait to do when I get home. This is a FASHION blog, not a humanitarian organization. I shouldn’t even technically be blogging about any of this as it has no relation whatsoever to the content I keep. I WANT to share this. It is IMPORTANT to me despite what you may think. The hours are long and it is hard work, I never said I wanted out! Before you ASSUME it was a free trip, you should know that I paid to be here. Every meal, every night stay, every taxi, every flight, even the training. So don’t come up here on my little corner of the internet and tell me that I have my priorities mixed up and I don’t give an eff about anything other than myself. You who hides behind the computer screen criticizing my efforts under the name Anonymous. If you are involved in your own things, I commend you. If you aren’t, I commend you – I am not one to judge. To each their own. One word of advice… next time you decide to trash my wall, at least have the courage to voice your opinions with your name and face behind them. You might even consider transforming all that pent up negative energy you save to dish out on my blog into some positive love vibes to spread around. God knows with people like you in the world we need it.

As for calling my blog a trainwreck… well that’s just in bad taste… I sincerely hope you continue to follow my blog and be ridiculously entertained by it forever more… oh, and for future reference, I really don’t have time to constantly justify my shit… so if you or anyone else tries this again your comment will just get a big fat delete in the face. Enjoy!

514 Outfit post from Hawaii – Enchanted Japanese Garden

Posted in 514 Outfit Post, beauty, Fashionista, fashionista finds, favorite, travel by fashionista514 on September 8, 2009
Take a good look… this is where zen lives.

Today was a day filled with endless, natural, complex beauty. Time took to reunite with a lost part of my soul. Time to reconnect with all things missed when you live and breathe your life in the city. Today was a real reminder that although I am a downtown girl at heart, I am equally a country bumpkin that wishes she could just be chillin‘ with animals all day…
We visited the beautiful Valley of the Temples Memorial in Oahu this afternoon and found this gorgeous slice of zen right here in paradise. A beautiful rendition of a traditional Japanese temple and it’s sacred grounds.
I can’t even begin to express how much all of these little critters helped to enlighten my mood. Morning hardships (waking up too early on vacation, stomach ache from Mc Donalds ODing, my phone being reset and losing all my contacts, etc…) turned to dust got carried away with the breeze…

The birds, the koi fish (man are they gorgeous – and huge!), the turtles, swans and even peacocks (although they were hiding) were astounding. Everything free to roam as it pleased… and in SUCH a stunning surrounding!

I felt like a little girl again…feeding the animals at a petting zoo… reading their personalities and appreciating all the little things that make them so important and special. Love shared between two mortal beings. Wanting to connect with another who’s perspective is a mystery. A common respect and caring… I guess a feeling of wanting to nurture and protect another living thing. Either this place set off my maternal clock or mother nature/Aphrodite instilled a feeling within me… I guess I’ll never know…

I absolutely adore the feeling of feeding and holding birds in my hand. They are such delicate animals symbolic of freedom in my eyes… Their physical ability to fly inspires my own life motto to always remain true to myself and be free. In spirit, in life and most importantly in my heart. I truly believe that where freedom starts, passion follows and love lasts.

Say hello to my little friend… this loosey goose/swan was a true buddy. Very chill to hang with… I can now say I made friends with the locals in Hawaii 😉

I have feather envy… what a beautiful shape… it’s like the curly hair of featherdom!

I also had the opportunity to go snorkeling today (first time ever!) Man o MAN did I fall in love. Hard. I spent the afternoon swimming with four sea turtles who were the COOLEST, most chill and relaxed guys I could have hoped to hang with. They gave me a personalized tour of the ocean coral reefs 😉 Shout out to my tourtels!!! I will be back to ride on your back demain…. hehehehehe… turtle HARASSMENT!!!

Goosey likes my new Coach bag… to eat???

514 Outfit Post from Hawaii – Cigarillos and such…

Posted in 514 Outfit Post, designer, DVF, Fashionista, fun, louboutin, travel by fashionista514 on September 6, 2009
So as far as I’m concerned… any post starting off with manslave window displays is pretty much a winner in my books… why o why can’t I be that mannequin??? Lord knows I could use some buff manslaves on leashes to walk around town with 😉 Hmmm… maybe I just need to make a trip to Stereo back in the day on a Saturday night…

Now there are lots and lots of beautiful designer shops here on the Waikiki beach strip – It really reminds me a lot of NYC’s infamous 5th Avenue or Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive… so much eye candy all on one beautiful street! Who knew that a tropical oasis such as this could also cater to your every shopping desire/wildest dreams!?!?!

Today for the first time I really missed home. You know, it is always great to get away from the “big picture” to really realize how lucky we all are in our lives. I am so thankful for everything that I have – health, an amazing family, beautiful open and honest friends, enough money to indulge in my passions and good, GREAT food! I have so much love coming my way, and so much love I feel the need to give back. My heart is overflowing, and I never want it to stop!

Soooo… here is me being thankful, grateful and all that other good stuff… for I truly beleive that this may be as good as it gets and that I was one of the lucky ones who got dealt a great card 😉

… Oh… and thank the good lord for cigarillos! I have ALWAYS wanted to try smoking one but was always way too chicken shit to do something so seemingly “badass”… well… I bought myself two packs of Hula Girl cigarillos in both coconut and vanilla flavor…

… and I love them! Now… this is not something to indulge in too often, but I really enjoyed the taste of the flavored tabacco after a AMAZING lobster/shrimp genocide feast at Red Lobster 😉 Cigarillos make me feel sexy (screw you Hollywood for glamourizing smoking and it WORKING on me… bastards…)

I’ll just shut up now…

What I’m Wearing
  • DVF silk chiffon tunic dress
  • New Louboutins! Woot woot… finally a post with them included!
  • Marc by Marc bag
  • Thomas Sabo charm necklace (yeah, yeah… I know you’re all getting bored of seeing this one)
  • John Hardy Bamboo Hoop earrings (yeah… these too… I know, I know…)
  • Gucci Watch

As Bryan Boy would say… BABOOSH!

Sooo… I know I had told you all a while back that I would be road trippin’ it up through the U.S of A to Florida shortly, however…

I will be on Waikiki Beach, Hawaii tomorrow at this same time! Decided to let a pilot do the mileage instead of the car and go for a truly relaxing escape (almost as good as couture ;).

Soooo… please be patient with the posts (have to find some beachfront internet)…. I will be reporting 514 styles with hula edge from my first ever island escape 😉

Gotta get to packin’…

514 Outfit Post – Retro Shopping Saturday!

Posted in 514 Outfit Post, DVF, Fashionista, louboutin, shoe by fashionista514 on August 30, 2009
Oh man did I have a field day on this fine Saturday!!! Although it has been pretty cold and nasty (rainy) here lately in the 514, the weather had absolutely no effect on curbing my shopping enthusiasm today!!! I slapped on some MAC Russian Red lippy and went on my way…
Can you effing believe that it is ALREADY cold enough to be wearing boots?!? WTF?!?! Hey… not that I’m complaining… I LOVES me some boots 😉

What I’m Wearing

  • DVF Tunic dress
  • Nine West suede boots
  • DVF leather jacket
  • Marc by Marc bag
  • H&M scarf

Oh la Dita! The things you do to me! Is she not 100% sensational??? Today I flipped through my beloved Fetish/Burlesque and the art of the Teese picture book… maybe that is what inspired the retro turn in my little shopping spree… 😉

SoooI took inspiration from the fabulous Dita for my “white moon” manicure. I LOVE it! French manicures you can kiss my @$$!!! Red nails paired with lipstick to match has to be the ultimate duo in my books!

Oh yes you saw what you think you saw…

…A new addition to my Louboutin family! Finally I scored me some signature black and red stunners 😉

These babies are what they call Decoltissimo’sdecolte being the french term for cleavage/seductive neckline…
Well the cut on the side of these shoes does to feet what a beautiful bra does to your chest… makes it the exceptional version of yourself!

Rosenstein… THE place in the 514 to get your Louboutin fix… I quite possibly love this store more than my own home… yeah… I know… I’m obsessed with showing off my manicure… it is too DAMN COOL THOUGH!!!

Oh! And a little teaser for you all… I scored some DVF goodies as well today (thanks to the beautiful Audrey at Holt’s for helping me with my selections 😉

BUT… I will make you wait to see them both in outfit posts… heheheheheheheh… I am SO EVIL! BUT I LOVE IT!!! Hehehehehehehehehe….

Here’s hopin‘ all of your Saturday’s were as good as mine 😉
