Fashionista Origami

Posted in artwork, creativity, designer, funk by fashionista514 on October 17, 2009
Why is origami so indefinately cool? Why is it even more appealling and insane when transformed into fashion? It seems to be one of those things that holds infinite amount of mystery and endless simplistic beauty. Making creatures, forms, geometrics and patterns out of a mere square of paper. Gives you inspiration to think of all the things you can do with other materials if Hilroy can become a lotus flower, box, or crane…
It seems designers have more than once picked up on this distinguished art, and applied it to their work. Pleating, definition and the creation of abstract forms seems to be a signature in Galliano’s work with Dior. Phillip Tracey makes glorious hats that borrow the sharp sophisticated edge from this refined oriental art. Gareth Pugh continues to shock and influence the fashion world with his formed bodices and surreal characterized models. Origami it seems can be interpreted so many different ways… from uptight, to fantasy.

Fashion show pics brought to you by the designers from Andre Lima. Beautiful, beautiful work ladies and gents!

Oh the infinite amount of ideas that spring out of everything and everywhere!

Hope everyone’s Friday is beautiful!

So today´s post is a lot of randomness… but I hope you will enjoy my Peruvian loves… above is the posse I have been chillin´with! I never knew that I would make such good friends on a volunteer mission… score!

Visited a much loved Italian restaurant here in Lima… Mama Lola´s! Delicious in-house pizza´s and home made pastas… fresh, tasty and simplistic… hitting all the right spots… they also let you write on the walls, sooooooo… of course I had to represent!!!
Who knows… maybe someone will look it up randomnly from eating here… I will keep you posted! This world works in strange and mysterious ways, I don´t doubt the possibility…
If the walls could speak, this is what they would look like.
Everybody gets to that ¨point¨while on vacation with their significant other where throwing them off the cliff seems like an amicable option… here I demonstrate with the babe :p Hehehehehehehe….

Yes… so that cliff pic was obviously taken before this one…

Incan ruins! They are so meticulously built and beautiful. Positioned towards the sea and the sun… they must have been absolutely gorgeous intact back in the day.

Beautiful alley

How beautiful is this message? Written on the walls of Mama Lola’s Italian Restaurant. Oh romance… {sigh}

Some super cool cactus plants

They look alive don’t they?!?

Our own version of Rum and Coke 😉 Yuuummmmms!

I am SUPER envious that they have Mc Donalds takeout… Montreal!!! Wake up!!! What are you waiting for?!?!

Alright, now I don’t know if this has any association whatsoever to, but if it does (and even if it dosn’t), go directly here now. A site not to be missed *thank you*

Possibly the most beautifully constructed sandwich of our time.

Felted wool purses

Vlad living out his alter ego as Mexican Wrestler “Whacko Paco”

Coolest fruit basket. Ever. Eat it grandma!

I’m off to bed now… catching a flight in a few hours up to Cuzco *Macchu Picchu town* Going to be very tired… but ready for all the shopping and natural beauty of the mountains! This week is all about being a tourist, so get ready for some pic heavy posts full of Peru’s best.

Fashionista Art Appreciation – Tara McPherson

Posted in artist, artwork, colorful, eccentric, fashionista finds by fashionista514 on September 15, 2009
There is just something about Tara McPherson’s art that I feel that I can relate to. As dark as some of her images may seem, they all bear a strong relation to emotions we all encounter and at one time or another experience.

Mixing in goth and eccentric notes makes for interesting and provoking cartoon like graphic art that cannot be surpassed. Her peices require your full attention to not miss the well defined and strategically placed detail.

Nuff said, now enjoy the scenery…

Fashionista Finds – Friday Fun ;)

Posted in artwork, fashionista finds, fashionista food, shoes by fashionista514 on August 29, 2009
Alright… here are a few of the things that I discovered today…

First up… Bubble Tea! Today I discovered that there are other options other than just the tapioca bubbles that usually make up the classic recipe… you can add mango stars for god’s sake!!! What the eff! You know the world is getting better when you can drink star shaped mango fruit with fresh peach or watermelon/green tea juice… mmmmm mmmmm good!!!

Oh lookie what I found… an Ed Hardy motor home!!! If this isn’t the coolest shiznack EVER than I don’t know what is… this mobile home is badass ;p

The John Varvatos store inside Holts!!! New and amazing! I love the interior of this little section within the store… the old record sleeve framed artwork and the simplisticly cool peices that is John Varvatos… if you haven’t already seen Varvatos collaboration with converse, I sincerely suggest you check it out here

Alright… passed by the Louboutin store and quite honestly… fell in love. These shoes have been haunting me since the two of us looked each other in the eye and knew we were meant for each other (the cheetah print ones)… I will be heading back tomorrow to try them if I feel like being especially cruel to my bank account…

This shop is a slice of heaven… Louboutin, Authentic French perfumes and chandelles and Italian fashion and ballet flats (Repetto below)… what is not to love???

If you get a chance to come to Montreal… please do check out de la Montagne street… It is LACED with goodies like these 😉

Have a beautiful weekend everyone 😉

Fashionista Flare – Warhol Vs. Phillips…

Posted in artwork, fashion, Fashionista, inspiration, makeup by fashionista514 on August 22, 2009

… Send me back in time…

Before I even say ANYTHING… first off – how effing AMAZING is the hair on these outfits??? What a well achieved effect. Kudos!

We all love a healthy dose of pop art now do we not? I for one cannot get enough of the mainstream artistic interpretations… sometimes not interpretations at all. The beauty of pop art to me, is the ability to capture the popularity, the celebrity, and the celebrated… and transform it into an eternally timeless classic. Making a momentary spark last forever.

The master of such in my world is Warhol. This man found beauty in the absolutely, obviously mundane. His superficial and off-set nature gave him a keen eye as to what was seen as interesting. His obsession with wealth, fame and self perception allowed him to capture everyday items and make them completely iconic.

“It would be very glamorous to be reincarnated as a great big ring on Liz Taylor’s finger.”

-Andy Warhol-

Richard Phillips is a rather new inspiration to me (MAC Cosmetics has currently released a new collection in collaboration – thank you for opening my eyes MAC ;), however I can’t seem to shake (nor do I want to) the vibe of the seventies from his pop culture portraits. I am totally feelin‘ his bright contrasting colors, silkscreen looking paintings, and close eye for mod details.

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”

-Andy Warhol-

I want this above my bed… I WANT… must find print online….

I love apples and ba nay nays…

This girl is SUCH a tease…

“In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”

-Andy Warhol-

“I never think that people die. They just go to department stores.”

-Andy Warhol-

this dress gives new meaning to the phrase “eat my shorts”…

Canada’s own! Coco Rocha portrait, as done by Phillips! Isn’t she lovely? It’s the great Canadian air I tell ya 😉

Always the artist, the experimental Warhol poses for a self-portrait of his “lady face”

“Isn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?”

-Andy Warhol-

“I am a deeply superficial person.”
-Andy Warhol-
What is it about mod girls anyways??? I guess it’s the same thing that draws me to the rebellious flappers of the twenties… they are gorgeous young fashionable women who rock all sorts of funky dramatic colored eyeshadow in hopes of channelling Twiggy or Verushka while rockin‘ psychedelic prints. Oh… the short hair is just awesomeness… miniskirts, platform heels, disturbingly amazing decade of music… can someone please zap me back in time???? I wanna spend my weekend in the seventies ;p

“Fantasy love is much better than reality love. Never doing it is very exciting. The most exciting attractions are between two opposites that never meet.”

-Andy Warhol-

“An artist is somebody who produces things that people don’t need to have.”

-Andy Warhol-

Hold the phone… hook me up with these bad boy Campbell’s Soup shoes please!!! They are kickin‘ (no pun intended… really… I’m not like THOSE people…).

Happy Saturday folks! Make the most of your weekend!

Fashionista Illustration – Cecilia Carlstedt

Posted in artwork, designer, fashion, Fashionista by fashionista514 on August 19, 2009
Some forms of beauty are just impossible to surpass. When I got wind of these ink and watercolor fashion illustrations by Cecilia Carlstedt it was exactly as such.
The precision, the detail and fine lines all make her work both aesthetically appealling as well as thought provoking. Playing with contrast and color she always creates a look that finds a beautiful balance of contemporary class. Raw but polished.

With clients such as La Perla, H&M, Victoria Beckham, Swarovski, Absolute Vodka, Paul Smith, MTV, VH1 and more, she is more than making her fashion footprint in the industry. And why not? Her drawings are perfectly marketable without lacking any artistic flair.

An insta-fave… keep her in your little memory storage box… I’m positive we will all be seeing much, much more of her indisposable talent.

What I’m Lovin’…

Posted in artwork, favorites, makeup, montreal by fashionista514 on July 25, 2009
Sending out some love to my babe last night…

… and getting some back this morning 🙂 Aren’t they beautiful!? I woke up to these! Talk about choosing the right side of the bed!

My new bike! The cruiser is finally COMPLETELY assembled and lookin‘ mighty fine if I may say so myself (thanks babe)! Going to fill up the tires with air and take it for a spin today…

Adding to artwork! If you weren’t already “in the know”, Vlad rescued a half finished canvas a few months back for me from the garbage room in our ex-building… soooo… a few sharpie paint purchases later we added a few of our own detailing… I did the “stripperesque” lady above…

… here are her boots… and a randomly kissed flower…

… and an uber cool couple debating life together…

… and a stoned kitty! Who knew!

Isn’t this monkey INSANE??? This is from the canvas’ previous owner/artist.
Mad Skillz

I currently cannot get enough of this Body Shop Papaya Bubble Bath… the summer always makes me fruit crazy

Just bought MAC’s lip conditioner spf 15 in Fuchsia… LOVES it, and best of all it’s not sticky… no more pulling your hair strands and random bugs off your fly trap lips! Heray for that!

My favorite paper weight reminder… live it. Breathe it.

I am currently TOTALLY digging my personal collection of colorful art. YUM.

A good friend made this one…

… and my grand mother made this one!

Have you gotten a chance to get to know Jamie Oliver? Well if you haven’t, I strongly suggest you be on your way – this boy can COOK! Centered and based on fresh ingredients, herbs and spices, he makes beautiful, flavourful and inspiringly deliciously simple recipes that will become staples in your personal eating memoirs 🙂

I will be attempting the smashed cherry tomato and kalamata olive salad to bring to a BBQ tonight – yet another thing I am LOVING!!!

Austrian Mozart truffle chocolates… our couch surfer brought them for us and I am IN LOVE.

Writing. I have been writing up a storm… maybe that is why I am feeling so good lately… I find it to be such a personal form of therapy! Beautiful! Oh, and discounted, gorgeous stationary always helps with inspiration and curing writers block… 😉

Renting movies!
I have been overdosing on all the great movies that have been released recently! I am super enjoying making gourmet dinners and then just staying in and chilling with friends and neighbors! Sooo the good life!

Erotic french fiction. I recently picked this up from a second hand bookstore (thanks Terry!) and am adoring the poetic nature of the writing. The french (Parisian that is) have such a beautiful language that I really should indulge in more… and as far as the stories, they are romantic, kinky and incredibly naughty and scandalous! The french do it well and give me some good ideas 😉
For those of you who don’t know I do speak french! Quebec french is just a bit more barbaric… that’s all 😉 Makes this kind of read even more of a treat!

… oh… and oldies are always goodies… listening to a lot of Ella Fitzgerald, Marilyn Monroe, Bing Crosby, Carol Welsman… I could go on forever. I am feeling rather glamorous today because of it 😉 and THAT is always a GREAT thing!

Have a beautiful Friday Darlings

Tattoo Mania!

Posted in artwork, beauty, colorful, details, eccentric, tattoo by fashionista514 on July 1, 2009
Tattoos are EVERYWHERE these days… the beautiful expression of art etched into your skin… forever… Okay, I’m sorry – that was NOT supposed to sound as morbid as it did 😛

I absolutely ADORE tattoos and truly believe that the people who pull them off always look completely unattainably cool… however I don’t know if I could ever be one of those people…. it just seems like a bit of a stretch for me.

Besides… I practically have ADD when it comes to EVERYTHING (lose interest pretty damn quickly… although that IS something I am working hard at), so picking just one design that I need to stick with for all of eternity seems like a pretty bad idea…

I once went for a consultation with a tattoo artist because I was utterly convinced I was going to get a Polynesian style bird design on my foot (bird = robin = Robyn *my name*… symbolism crap… I thought it was pretty clever too…). I was all prepared and psyched until he started telling me about how tattoos normally age… details blur into each other, colors fade, etc… I started to freak. You see, I don’t mind eternally altering my body for art… however it must keep looking good eternally! So, I backed out and that was the end of that!

I have never been able to find a design I am completely in love with or that holds significant symbolic relevance to me. I do know the addiction associated to getting a tattoo… the feeling that one is no longer enough, and you want one here and there… until finally your body is doused in them! I have a belly button piercing and LOVE it, and still to this day consider piercing all sorts of places… however at the end of the day I look at myself in the mirror and laugh – cause I would look like a total white trash fool if I did that to myself… I’m just too preppy or something… I don’t have the cool factor needed to successfully pull it off 😦 Boooooo! Kudos to those who can! Rock on yo!

Beside all of my tattoo paranoia, I think they are absolutely SPECTACULAR! They are everything their image portrays… sexy, intricate, meaningful, spectacular, mysterious… and mostly – a beautiful piece of ART!

And I truly believe that a tattoo tells you a maddening amount about who the person on the inside is… external beauty that represents inner. An excuse to bond, to question and meet with others… and that is exactly what the world needs – forms of unity expressed in different ways.

So, anybody DO have a tattoo/tattoos?

If you do, I’d love to see a pic that I could later feature in a post 😉 e-mail me at or drop the link in the comment box 😉
