514 Outfit Post – Retro Shopping Saturday!

Posted in 514 Outfit Post, DVF, Fashionista, louboutin, shoe by fashionista514 on August 30, 2009
Oh man did I have a field day on this fine Saturday!!! Although it has been pretty cold and nasty (rainy) here lately in the 514, the weather had absolutely no effect on curbing my shopping enthusiasm today!!! I slapped on some MAC Russian Red lippy and went on my way…
Can you effing believe that it is ALREADY cold enough to be wearing boots?!? WTF?!?! Hey… not that I’m complaining… I LOVES me some boots πŸ˜‰

What I’m Wearing

  • DVF Tunic dress
  • Nine West suede boots
  • DVF leather jacket
  • Marc by Marc bag
  • H&M scarf

Oh la Dita! The things you do to me! Is she not 100% sensational??? Today I flipped through my beloved Fetish/Burlesque and the art of the Teese picture book… maybe that is what inspired the retro turn in my little shopping spree… πŸ˜‰

SoooI took inspiration from the fabulous Dita for my “white moon” manicure. I LOVE it! French manicures you can kiss my @$$!!! Red nails paired with lipstick to match has to be the ultimate duo in my books!

Oh yes you saw what you think you saw…

…A new addition to my Louboutin family! Finally I scored me some signature black and red stunners πŸ˜‰

These babies are what they call Decoltissimo’sdecolte being the french term for cleavage/seductive neckline…
Well the cut on the side of these shoes does to feet what a beautiful bra does to your chest… makes it the exceptional version of yourself!

Rosenstein… THE place in the 514 to get your Louboutin fix… I quite possibly love this store more than my own home… yeah… I know… I’m obsessed with showing off my manicure… it is too DAMN COOL THOUGH!!!

Oh! And a little teaser for you all… I scored some DVF goodies as well today (thanks to the beautiful Audrey at Holt’s for helping me with my selections πŸ˜‰

BUT… I will make you wait to see them both in outfit posts… heheheheheheheh… I am SO EVIL! BUT I LOVE IT!!! Hehehehehehehehehe….

Here’s hopin‘ all of your Saturday’s were as good as mine πŸ˜‰

Fashionista Finds – Friday Fun ;)

Posted in artwork, fashionista finds, fashionista food, shoes by fashionista514 on August 29, 2009
Alright… here are a few of the things that I discovered today…

First up… Bubble Tea! Today I discovered that there are other options other than just the tapioca bubbles that usually make up the classic recipe… you can add mango stars for god’s sake!!! What the eff! You know the world is getting better when you can drink star shaped mango fruit with fresh peach or watermelon/green tea juice… mmmmm mmmmm good!!!

Oh lookie what I found… an Ed Hardy motor home!!! If this isn’t the coolest shiznack EVER than I don’t know what is… this mobile home is badass ;p

The John Varvatos store inside Holts!!! New and amazing! I love the interior of this little section within the store… the old record sleeve framed artwork and the simplisticly cool peices that is John Varvatos… if you haven’t already seen Varvatos collaboration with converse, I sincerely suggest you check it out here

Alright… passed by the Louboutin store and quite honestly… fell in love. These shoes have been haunting me since the two of us looked each other in the eye and knew we were meant for each other (the cheetah print ones)… I will be heading back tomorrow to try them if I feel like being especially cruel to my bank account…

This shop is a slice of heaven… Louboutin, Authentic French perfumes and chandelles and Italian fashion and ballet flats (Repetto below)… what is not to love???

If you get a chance to come to Montreal… please do check out de la Montagne street… It is LACED with goodies like these πŸ˜‰

Have a beautiful weekend everyone πŸ˜‰

… cause I’m missin’ my long hair…
…and these earrings I was once allowed to borrow…

Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds… yum yum yum yum yum… I would eat them for breakfast if I could (and didn’t have to sacrifice my teeth)…

K… my hair looks mousy here… but wait for it… waaaait for it…

It is fan-flowing tastic here! Waves of hair!!! How I miss thee… grow faster dammit!!!

See how much happier I was back in the day with long hair??? I am working on scalpular stimulation to get them babies growin’! Please excuse the above photo of me posing as Mrs. Gums-a-lot πŸ˜‰

Any tried and true recommendations anyone can offer to make hair grow faster (and healthier)???

Could there possibly be anybody cooler in the world…

… than David Bowie??? NUH UH!!! not even close…

The owner of the Diamond Dogs, the mayor of Suffragette City, the original Starman, master of C-c-c-c-c-changes and the alter ego of Ziggy Stardust… David Bowie is a storytelling mastermind… Not to mention possible one of the coolest and avantgarde fashionista’s out there…
Okay… I have total Space Oddity lust and envy over this makeup… sensational!

My mother’s side of the family are all British (which may very well explain my addictions to tea, Elton John and Mini Coopers covered in Union Jacks…), so naturally we are ones to recognize our own. And god damn am I proud to be in any way associated to David Bowie (and all my other British loves)! It seems as though Bowie was always with me… my grandmother, mom and her sisters seemed predestined to be followers of his intellectual escapades in storytelling. I like to imagine my moms family growing up as uber hippie folk… art, music, literature, love, funk, color and rebellion. And what a better landmark of the times than a most perfect discography πŸ™‚ Enter Bowie…

This man oozes a coolness whose source I fail to comprehend. How does he do it (and where do I sign up?!). He is so much himself that there is no room for anything else. Such a master of his craft. Such an artist. Representing his art form through layered forms of self expression… dance, instruments, singing, fashion, makeup, acting… is there anything this man can’t be a revolutionary at???

I still remember buying my first CD of his… Greatest Hits… it was at a GARAGE SALE (fool who considered that worthy of giving away), and I paid 50 cents for it with THE PLASTIC WRAP STILL ON!!! Obviously the poor soul had no clue as to what he was missing out on… you see… somethings are just MEANT to find you. The same CD still resides with me and continually rocks my little world day after day after day.

Labyrinth, Labyrinth, Labyrinth do you know how many times I’ve seen this movie? At least 50 (no joke). You see, as a child it was the only movie I would ever allow my mother to rent for me… so I have the whole thing memorized in my mind. This movie was when I fell in love with everything that this man is and represents. The true individual within all of us – in its purest form.

May we all worship that little shrine in each of our heads dedicated to Bowie… (don’t lie… I know it’s in there).

Fashionista Packaging – Marketing Masters

Posted in fashion, inspiration, marketing masters, wow by fashionista514 on August 25, 2009
Marketing, more times than not, remains the reason we purchase what we do. And honestly, who the hell wouldn’t want to possess these items when some marketing strategies are so damn inspiring and cool???
With the marketing mind control that exists in the world today, companies are working smarter to obtain eye catching advertising that grab attention. We are so bombarded that our culture is fazed by the norm… even the sexual edge that everything seems to hold. Step it up peoples… we are BORED… naked people are nice, but real creativity and thought come not from picking on our natural urges, but our imaginations!

Now THAT is effective advertising… how cute!

I wonder what’s inside… banana juice??? Ewww….

This bag reminds me of those aprons you can get with the lingerie clad bodies printed on top πŸ˜‰

Fun times!

Blah Blah Blahhhhhhh… Rant time…

Posted in can you beleive?, rant, worries by fashionista514 on August 25, 2009
Today is just not my day. Although everything is fine in my world, I can’t help but feel completely consumed by anxiety, stress and fear. Anxious from feeling like my professional life is on hold. Stressed from over analyzing and thinking that my relationship could be better if we didn’t work together (a passionate career for me = my sanity = better sane girlfriend). Fear of the future. Of not having enough time to do everything I want to do. Fear of not achieving things by myself. I am surrounded day in and out by successful men, or those who are on their way. I feel like one of them… without my own thing going on. I am excited to be travelling soon (this is the current holdup), but want to get back to what makes my head spin with desire… fashion. The business of surrounding yourself with beauty.

Another thing that’s on my mind that I just can’t shake… Malicious people who underestimate me constantly. We all know who I’m talking about… the people who assume that just because you know how to apply makeup and wear a pair of high heels that you have nothing more to offer. The ones who are surprised when you act “out of character” like a normal human being and show any sign of the fact that you are just like them. PEOPLE!!! WE ARE ALL THE SAME! GET OVER IT ALREADY! Just because I choose to present myself in a certain way DOES NOT MEAN that I’m stupid, a gold digger, high maintenance, a princess or egotistical. I am just a girl making the most of what she was given and working hard to maintain the physical, emotional and psychological side of herself… As much time as I spend shopping and lip glossing, I am reading, cooking, exploring, loving, watching and creating. So just eat it haters.

When I am in vulnerable moods such as these, there is only one thing that ever makes me feel better – this song. That is all. Somehow, it is always comforting to me – no matter how many times I play it πŸ™‚

Billy Joel owns a part of my soul.

If I had my way…

I would be prancing around in these Sergio Rossi embroidered beauties on this fine Saturday afternoon… (if it werent so hot out!)

What can I say… there is nothing I don’t LOVE about them! Hmmm… suede… check! Electric blue and orange… check! Aztec/hippie design… check! Zipper down the front… yesss….. High heeled and high thighed… double check!!!

Wow… for the girl who loves boho chic yet dosen’t want to feel underdressed… these boots have ended all doubts in my mind… just look at them paired with skinnies and a tunic blouse! Now if I could only get past the $4,000.00 price tag… *gasp*!!!!!

*total droolfest*

I am coveting ALL embroidered boots on this fine Saturday morning… Who needs coffee and brunch when you have a visual feast as such???

Don’t get me wrong… I’m still going for coffee… like now… Happy Saturday campers πŸ˜‰

Fashionista Flare – Warhol Vs. Phillips…

Posted in artwork, fashion, Fashionista, inspiration, makeup by fashionista514 on August 22, 2009

… Send me back in time…

Before I even say ANYTHING… first off – how effing AMAZING is the hair on these outfits??? What a well achieved effect. Kudos!

We all love a healthy dose of pop art now do we not? I for one cannot get enough of the mainstream artistic interpretations… sometimes not interpretations at all. The beauty of pop art to me, is the ability to capture the popularity, the celebrity, and the celebrated… and transform it into an eternally timeless classic. Making a momentary spark last forever.

The master of such in my world is Warhol. This man found beauty in the absolutely, obviously mundane. His superficial and off-set nature gave him a keen eye as to what was seen as interesting. His obsession with wealth, fame and self perception allowed him to capture everyday items and make them completely iconic.

“It would be very glamorous to be reincarnated as a great big ring on Liz Taylor’s finger.”

-Andy Warhol-

Richard Phillips is a rather new inspiration to me (MAC Cosmetics has currently released a new collection in collaboration – thank you for opening my eyes MAC ;), however I can’t seem to shake (nor do I want to) the vibe of the seventies from his pop culture portraits. I am totally feelin‘ his bright contrasting colors, silkscreen looking paintings, and close eye for mod details.

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”

-Andy Warhol-

I want this above my bed… I WANT… must find print online….

I love apples and ba nay nays…

This girl is SUCH a tease…

“In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”

-Andy Warhol-

β€œI never think that people die. They just go to department stores.”

-Andy Warhol-

this dress gives new meaning to the phrase “eat my shorts”…

Canada’s own! Coco Rocha portrait, as done by Phillips! Isn’t she lovely? It’s the great Canadian air I tell ya πŸ˜‰

Always the artist, the experimental Warhol poses for a self-portrait of his “lady face”

β€œIsn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?”

-Andy Warhol-

“I am a deeply superficial person.”
-Andy Warhol-
What is it about mod girls anyways??? I guess it’s the same thing that draws me to the rebellious flappers of the twenties… they are gorgeous young fashionable women who rock all sorts of funky dramatic colored eyeshadow in hopes of channelling Twiggy or Verushka while rockin‘ psychedelic prints. Oh… the short hair is just awesomeness… miniskirts, platform heels, disturbingly amazing decade of music… can someone please zap me back in time???? I wanna spend my weekend in the seventies ;p

“Fantasy love is much better than reality love. Never doing it is very exciting. The most exciting attractions are between two opposites that never meet.”

-Andy Warhol-

β€œAn artist is somebody who produces things that people don’t need to have.”

-Andy Warhol-

Hold the phone… hook me up with these bad boy Campbell’s Soup shoes please!!! They are kickin‘ (no pun intended… really… I’m not like THOSE people…).

Happy Saturday folks! Make the most of your weekend!
