Shopping Hiatus Challenge!

Posted in challenge, money-saving by fashionista514 on May 30, 2009
Alright, alright, alright… so the day has finally come where I am officially

Now, I have tried this in the past (and failed miserably) but now I finally have witnesses. A support system.

You guys!
(lucky, lucky you)

Over the years, I have become an increasingly bad shopaholic 😦
(smack on the wrist)

I have always been able to because I have always kept my expenses down… now, my expenses are lower than ever and I want to finally take ADVANTAGE of that.
I want to start saving money in mad heaps! Unfortunately… my shopping addiction quite easily gets in the way of saving… and really it does feel like an addiction sometimes.

As much as I love Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin and MAC makeup… I will not be donating any more of my worth to their pocketbooks!
(not for quite a while *tear*).

So here is my Challenge (and this IS a challenge):

I will not be buying any clothing, shoes or accessories for two whole months
(start date June 1st – end date August 1st)

here are the specifics:

  • Everyday stuff needed (such as skincare, toiletries or foundation) is allowed to be replenished… still gotta bathe YO!
  • If I DO crack and buy something – the penalty is that I have to give it up as a giveaway! You lucky… lucky… LUCKY people!
  • Giveaways on this site are still on – I will shop vicariously through you 😉
  • Maintenance of clothing and DIY are allowed and encouraged (changing heels on shoes, painting jeans, whatever…)
DON’T get me wrong – I use absolutely everything I ever buy and love it till it shreds or runs out, but this nonsense has got to stop! I have a killer wardrobe (in my opinion), and now instead of adding to it I need to be enjoying the crap out of it and using it!

We all have our inner demons, and this is definitely mine

(sucks to be a girl sometimes, no?). I want money to set me free of this consumerism urge I constantly feel and dislike so much! I figure two months will give me enough time to change some of my bad habits and take control of the urges I get when the perfect shoes blink back at me…

More $$$ in the bank (or invested) = more of a better future for me and my “to be” family ;). You’ve only got one shot at life and I wanna live mine right!

So here is where YOU come in!

Every day I will be exercising a “Money Saving” tip in my everyday life to help me out on my quest!

Submit your tip in the comment form below, and at the end of my Shopping Hiatus Challenge the tip that helped me out the most will be receiving the following Giveaway:
  • Fashionista 514 Engraved iPod Nano!!! Choose your color (subject to availability)… cause the most relaxing form of meditation is music to me 😉

Help me out ladies & gents! I will be documenting my progress on my blog throughout the time frame of the Challenge including the tips and the bloggers who donated them 😉

Here goes Nothin‘… Wish me Luck!!!

Soooo, just to inform you all – I caved after one month (it was on MAC makeup… the collection was just too pretty… 😦

BUUUUT… I’ve been doing really good with cutting back on everything else in general! Making food at home, manicures and pedicures at home, no more $5.00 Starbucks coffees, riding my bike around town instead of bus and metro passes, etc…

Giveaway is STILL on!!!

Thank you all… I LOVE all of your tips and AM trying them all out 🙂

Lovin’ Lancome

Posted in product review by fashionista514 on May 29, 2009
Alright, so I’ve never really been given the chance to really try and get into Lancome products – until I received a gift set for my birthday.

Oh. My. God. I love them!

Now ladies, I am not talking about their makeup – solely their skincare. My new obsession (to say the least), is Creme Mousse Confort – a comforting creamy foaming cleanser for dry skin. Now, my skin is definitely more on the oily – combination side of things and this mousse is not at all too overwhelming for it. It does not strip the skin or give you that itchy “pulled” feeling and the best part? It smells so amazingly like roses!!!

Here is what it claims to do:

“This rich and creamy cleanser with nurturing Rosehip Oil and soothing Rose de France delivers a voluminous foam to gently remove makeup, even waterproof, dissolve impurities and leave the skin soft and supple.”

… and I would have to agree!

I love that I can comfortably wash my skin in one step (no cotton balls to remove makeup), and then not even bother with a moisturizer in the end (if I choose… and really, it’s all about choice)!

If you loved the MAC rose collection, this is a great compliment to the look and feel it embodies (especially if you splurged on the perfume and Rose Fix spray).

Try it!

This has become an insta-fave in my beauty box!

Summer Candy Couture

Jean-Paul Gaulthier

Couture crush!

Designers have created some beautiful pieces reflecting pure femininity this Spring/Summer season. Goddesses of every corner (vamp to dainty) come together to create the ultimate “lady” look!

Christian Dior

Beautiful “English Rose” style attire graced the runways at Dior.
Perfect folds in layered applique skirts added an air of drama to each outfit.

Christian Dior

Antique tea cup style prints underlay the gorgeous detailing of the dresses. Like it was made for British Rose Barbie!

Christian Dior

Would this not be the PERFECT dress for the tea party scene in Alice In Wonderland?!?! Gorgeous!

At any rate, whether you choose to be the vamp or the perfect porcelain dame – the silhouette remains the same… accentuate the curves!

So show off what makes you a proud woman and FLAUNT FLAUNT FLAUNT in the spirit of summa!!!

Eternal Love… Fact or Fiction?

Posted in inspiration, love by fashionista514 on May 28, 2009

In this day and age it is getting harder and harder to believe in true unfaltering love.

The stuff of fairy tales.

Is it because these stories fabricated are our idealistic vision of what could ever be, or does it actually exist without our minds being clouded? I’d like to think I’ve experienced it before, but with naivety and youth thrown into the mix – I’m not so sure.

This beautiful/eerie photo of the embracing skeletons above projects on us a tragic “Romeo & Juliet” style love story. It is said that the man was probably killed and the woman later sacrificed to accompany him into the afterlife (found on an industrial site in Mantua).

It is said that the couples remains have been locked in an embrace for more than 5,000 years.

If that is not romantic, I sure as hell don’t know what is!

But back to my original point. In a world littered by seemingly honest people who lie, cheat and destroy the people they love in their lives how do you really know who to trust? I hate to sound like a cynic, but with the sexualization of the world and grown men sneaking around on their wives it makes me pretty weary!

Even when you know someone, do you really?

Birthday Festivities :)

Posted in family, friends, party by fashionista514 on May 26, 2009
First and foremost,
I want to thank everyone for the beautiful birthday wishes sent my way 😉
You guys are seriously the best 🙂

I am officially 24 now and absolutely lovin‘ it!
Every year I feel better and more and more myself – it’s very refreshing! This year, my best friends and amazing families all spoiled my absolutely ROTTEN – in true fashionista style!

My birthday morning brunch was spent with these crazy fools… 😉
Lenie (far left) has been one of my best friends since high school, and Robby (center) my stylin‘ gay sexy dancer bud I met in cegep are waaaay too much fun!

We sported our most fashionable Zoolander faces at my favorite coffee hangout – Cafe Holts here in the 514. I ordered my regular
“Brunch Tartine” (an open-faced Parisian style toasted sandwich with poached eggs, sauteed mushrooms, smoked salmon and baked tomatoes… yuuuuuum!)
and washed it all down with some freshly squeezed O.J…. freeeeesssssh!

The b-day cake they surprised me with – half massacred… chocolate mousse in the morning… “Happy Birrrrrthday to meeeeeeeee“….

Lenie afraid of Robby’s overly affectionate ways…

Andy (a.k.a. the gingerbread man)
and I have known each other since our first minute of cegep where our lockers were right across from each other ;). The rest is history my friends…. so much amazing history!!!

The beautiful Lenie! Sooo sexy in public places…. rrrowwww!

This is what a male model would look like on Star Trek… sooo beautiful in space…. lol

And here is where the action starts!
Vlad (my babe) and his family hosted an AMAZING birthday party for me at his dad’s beautiful house!

Vlad’s Uncle (above) spins my friend Mimi and takes over the dance floor…. add me to facebook – I will be adding the video VERY VERY soon (so worth checking out – you will DIE)!!!

Threesome! Dora (yellow) joins Vlad & I’s relationship (finally)!

Babe and the beautiful Nabila (she is the most gorgeous dentist I have EVER seen – so lucky to have her examine my mouth) toasting by the bar 😉

My babe and I joking around… as usual…

Antonina (Vlad’s Dad’s Girlfriend) and I chillin‘ waiting for the guests to arrive!

Luckiest. Girl. Alive.

Some of the stunning guests!

They hired caterers and wait staff! Party fit for a Princess! There was a BBQ, a crazy assortment of Romanian food and huuuuuge desert platters! Oh, and drinks outside by the pool was a veeeery nice touch…

Caaaaake! I was freakin‘ amazing. Hazelnut rum cake with cream filling (very European), washed down with a toast of champagne 🙂

Babe = My Romanian translator

Me, Vlad, Vlad’s Dad Horatiu & his beautiful girlfriend Antonina waiting in line for CAKE! Tee hee

Babe looking uber handsome

On the count of three lets all attack Dora!!! One….

Diana (far left), Dora (yellow), Vlad, and Than (far right) can’t keep their hands off each other… yes… it was THAT kind of party… hehehehe….

This year I got a record amount of flowers
( I swear to god I received at least five dozen roses in every single colour) – my place looks like a florists office)! I feel so beautiful surrounded by colorful flowers 🙂

My dad & I (drinkin‘ some green tea) on the patio in the backyard after an AMAZING dinner at Japanese restaurant Fuji (they cook everything in front of you on the table). Mmmmmm 😉

Sleeping beauty – isn’t he precious? lol

Dylan (my dad’s doggie), and my bro under the influence…. hehehehehe…. My bro, Vlad and I later celebrated my birthday with a Sunday Morning brunch at my moms (she made a delicious lemon cake I have been enjoying for breakfast in the morning) full with fresh fruit & coffee, sandwiches, and a delicious spanish omelette (one of her many specialties).

I would just like to brag a little itty bit more… I have the most amazing boyfriend, friends and family one could ever wish for!!! I am so grateful and my heart feels like its going to explode after all the generosity shown for my birthday!

Catherine Angiel – Badass Beauty that Shines….

Posted in designer, fashion, jewels by fashionista514 on May 20, 2009

Every once and a while, a designer comes along that all the celebrities go gaga for.
Catherine Angiel is one of these very designers.

Her sexy and sparkling creations made from precious stones and lotsa diamonds make every rock ‘n roll chick swoon over her tattoo and street style influence.

Rather than focusing on the size and flash of the materials she uses, she concentrates instead on the fabrication and styling of her pieces.

Engagement rings hold a vintage edge to them and her name tag necklaces resemble graffiti art.

Bold, sultry, dangerous and just a little darkness give this range it’s mysterious appeal.

It’s really no wonder that celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Pete Wentz, Ethan Hawke, Courtney Cox-Arquette, Paul Rudd, Felicity Huffman, Cheryl Crow, Candace Bushnell and many more have all given into the gravitational pull of her jewellery line.

From the simple name of her collections, it is clear to see where this artist draws inspiration (Click on the following titles to view her full collections)…

What is it about vintage style that is so undeniably romantic?!?

Her line starts at $500 and goes to $25,000

Blogging Break

Posted in time out by fashionista514 on May 17, 2009

My dearest readers and fellow bloggers,

I am sorry to say that i will be on a bit of a blogging break for the next little while 😦

Last night my brand new apartment was broken into and amongst the things taken was my most basic blogging tool – my laptop 😦

Its safe to say that i am devastated and insanely overwhelmed by everything going on right now in my life! So, during my blogging break i will be getting the wheels in my life turning again (new computer, unpacking, conquer work stress, be a better girlfriend to my beau, and picking up all the broken peices).

Thank you all for your understanding and i promise when i get back i will have much more better news for you, colourful posts and a splash of some long overdue creativity!

All my contests are still on, so get into marilyn monroe mode and enter! Giveaways will be a little postponed, but as always very much apply 🙂

Love yas & will see you soon!
