Check me out y’all… I’m Badass… ;)

Posted in bubblebath, contest, diva, luxury, martinis, online shopping, prize, product review by fashionista514 on July 3, 2009
Welcome my darlings… to the wonderful world of being a badass… ;) Let me show you around some…

well, this post is a badass post… (if you haven’t already figured that out), but it’s also a product review for a shampoo and conditioner I really love… Badass Hair (how fitting… *tee hee*)

Today I will be reviewing Wicked Mint Shampoo and Silky Sweet Condition from the Badass Hair line… yum yum yuuuuuum!

American in Style.
Rugged in Attitude.
Defiantly Creative.

“At it’s core, Badass Hair is driven by iconoclastic stylist Scott Fontana. With a fiercely independant business style and a maddening obsession with quality, Badass Hair offers the sophisticated consumer a taste of luxury while retaining a streetwise, Badass attitude.”

…. sooooo me, right?

Did you see the packaging?!?
Glam enough for even the princesses of punk…

Oh, and of course helping you to all release a bit of your inner wild child… hang on to your hats… here we go ;)

Being a little bad is VERY freeing feeling (hey MJ said it right)… not only does it break you out of your little bubble of self, but it also gives you a rush, some shock and breathes a new stream of air into your life. Breaking the rules, riding on motorcycles, making dumb faces (you will be seeing a lot of this in my pics… you know… I had to “educate”you… yes… that is my excuse), being spontaneous, daring yourself, making your own rules, wearing studs and leather… this is just the beginning! There is just sooo much ground to cover… ;)

Personally, I find it incredibly hard to act badass when I am not dressed to kill… (c’mon, try breaking some rules in a sun dress – just not the same effect). Slap on some lipstick, smokey eyes, high heels, chains, spikes, pleather – whatever! Just transform yourself a little bit into that person that is hiding in the corner of your brain, chained down by ridiculous laws and rules set upon us by society, family and friends… oh, and your little friend “ettiquette” is the one in there holding the whip… break free girlies – if only for a morning jog ;)

The little things I do to surprise myself and get a rush out of…
  • cut my hair different every time
  • say what I want when I want
  • Make-up in vampish colors
  • exhibitionism in the home (there – my secret is out)
  • Say “fuck you” to chores and enjoy the sun
  • Dance on the bar
  • Shots, shots, shots (blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol)… make me feel strong like man!
  • Splurge on louboutins and handbags… always gives me a naughty rush (like I’m not supposed to – ummmm… reminder… you only live once… at least I’m livin’ in louboutins :)
  • Trying new and exotic foods! I’m adventurous like that…
And now for THE MONEY SHOT!!! Yes, I am topless… and yes those shampoo’s are the only things covering my tee-taa’s… you see… I haven’t even washed my hair yet and they are ALREADY bringing out the inner badass in me… I’d hate to see what happens next…

I thought I’d be more thorough with this review… so let me all welcome you to my hair-washing, bubble bath, Badass review hair experience…
a.k.a…. my bathtub!!! Woot woot… party’s ON!!!

Oh! There’s my drink… a badass bath just wouldn’t be the same without a stiff drink… (Redbull/White cranberry Belvedere Vodka Martini with a splash of lime if you were wondering) now where were we…

Wicked Mint… what it is:
“A rich lathering shampoo with healing properties of Tea Tree Oil to cleanse hair and scalp”

… and oh boy does it ever! Firstly, I have always been a mega fan of shampoos with cooling oils integrated into their recipe – there is no better feeling than a mint tingle on your scalp to refresh yourself on some of the hottest days of summer. The smell wakes you up in the morning as a natural aromatherapy, and it leaves your hair feeling squeaky clean without stripping away all it’s natural oils! This shampoo really lathers up very well (as you can see in the pics), and with the excess soapy foam I used it as a great shaving cream for my underarms and legs (my legs loved the cooling sensation from the mint… gimme more)!

and now on to the next…

Silky Sweet Condition… what it does:
“Rich in proteins, vitamins and amino acids to energize weak, hungry for moisture hair”.

First of all, let me just say… this conditioner smells like sweet tarts, or rockets… so in my books it has already won! I love this conditioner because it is very rich in texture, creamy – but without the residue that is often left after some products. Also, you can kill two birds with one stone by using this as a hair mask (please refrain from hurting any actual birdies – Badass DOES NOT test on animals so it would really just cancel out all their good efforts)! I color my hair (yes, I have greys already – bastard genetics), so I need all the hydration I can get! This conditioner does a great job at untangling unruly hair BEFORE you brush… easy peazy I tell ya…

Soooo… I have both a Wicked Mint Shampoo AND a Silky Sweet Conditioner courtesy of Badass Hair to share with one lucky reader to indulge in! YAY!

Beat the Acne Heat

Posted in beauty, favorite, product review, skin, summer by fashionista514 on June 27, 2009

Summer is finally here, and with it (at least here in Mtl.) comes some INSANE humidity.
Humidity = ZITS!!!
Ewwwwwwww…. :(

Sooo… I have compiled what I consider to be the perfect attack to knock them suckers out before they take residency on YOUR FACE!!! Here is my summer clear skin survival troup… HUP HUP TWO THREE…

Beta Wash
Acne wash for normal to oily skin

“Beta Wash is a powerful oil-free gel cleanser with algae extracts to detoxify the skin and chamomile to calm irritation. It also contains beta hydroxy acid, to combat breakouts, plus rosemary, sage, and myrrh – known botanical acne healers. It penetrates pores to interrupt the acne production cycle and absorbs oil without dehydrating the skin. Perfect for teenagers and adults alike.”

Love this, and it leaves your skin feeling tingly and fresh…

Beta Mask
Blemish treatment for normal to oily skin

“This targeted treatment is a multi-faced approach to combating acne. It contains one percent salicylic acid for mild exfoliation, willow bark extract to reduce sebum secretion and kaolin to absorb excess shine. Because blemished skin is sensitive, calendula, arnica and sage are added to tone and moisturize, while peppermint and eucalyptus provide antibacterial benefits.”

This mask has the same feeling as the wash – refreshing and deep cleansing. Great to use right before your period when breakouts are more prone (I slap it on EVERY CHANCE I get before that dreaded time of the month arrives… ugh…)

C10 (P.M.)
Brightening night cream for all skin types

“This formula contains 10 percent vitamin C, the highest allowable dose, to effect brighter skin, fewer dark spots and a visibly younger look with repeated use. Ceramides work to recharge skin’s natural brighteners. And seven powerful extracts tone and firm the complexion. Unlike some vitamin C products, this treatment also softens and hydrates.”

Ummm… not only does it fade your acne scars and sun spots over time, but this baby smells like orange creamsicles… SOLD!!!

Mario Badescu’s Drying lotion is like nothing else I have ever tried… it actually FREAKIN WORKS on drying up them imposters ASAP!!! I dap some of this on to my breakouts with a Q-tip and POOF! The next morning it is considerably better if not completely GONE! Amazing! A definate must-have all year round for every girl/guy out there (yes, my boyfriend has been know to use it A LOT – works great at healing mosquito bites too ;)

Alright, so finally you have washed, masked, creamed and dried every possible pore on the surface of your skin… you are positively GLOWING… however that drying lotion can be a bit rough and cause some dry skin… the perfect remedy? Calendula cream! You can purchase this at any drug store (usually used as a naturopath version of Polysporin to aid in healing cuts, scrapes and burns) or health food store. Seriously works at getting your chapped zit area back into creamy smooth skin (and seems to help avoid scarring from developping)! I only use this once the acne itself has completely been extracted and is on it’s healing run – not when it is still infected!

I hope this helps you as much as it is helping me :)

Tried, tested and TRUE!!!

Lovin’ Lancome

Posted in product review by fashionista514 on May 29, 2009
Alright, so I’ve never really been given the chance to really try and get into Lancome products – until I received a gift set for my birthday.

Oh. My. God. I love them!

Now ladies, I am not talking about their makeup – solely their skincare. My new obsession (to say the least), is Creme Mousse Confort – a comforting creamy foaming cleanser for dry skin. Now, my skin is definitely more on the oily – combination side of things and this mousse is not at all too overwhelming for it. It does not strip the skin or give you that itchy “pulled” feeling and the best part? It smells so amazingly like roses!!!

Here is what it claims to do:

“This rich and creamy cleanser with nurturing Rosehip Oil and soothing Rose de France delivers a voluminous foam to gently remove makeup, even waterproof, dissolve impurities and leave the skin soft and supple.”

… and I would have to agree!

I love that I can comfortably wash my skin in one step (no cotton balls to remove makeup), and then not even bother with a moisturizer in the end (if I choose… and really, it’s all about choice)!

If you loved the MAC rose collection, this is a great compliment to the look and feel it embodies (especially if you splurged on the perfume and Rose Fix spray).

Try it!

This has become an insta-fave in my beauty box!

Mmmm… Mmmmm…. Good! Product Review

Posted in favorite, online shopping, product review by fashionista514 on March 24, 2009
I have been using Kiehl’s Soy Milk and Honey Body Polish now for a good five months (this is how long a tube of this fabulous formula lasts with frequent use)! Not only does it smell like a mixture of coconut and cream, but the scrub itself is completely made up of natural loofah! That’s right! The natural sponge that we normally use as a scrubbing sponge performs as an amazing exfoliator where a little proves to go a long way. It is made for the body, but on several occasions I have used it as a facial scrub as well without any bad reactions to my uber sensitive skin. Literally a dime sized amount can exfoliate an entire leg, torso, arm, etc… The scrub feels great if you can get your significant other to massage it into your back – feels like a good back scratch! Also, when you are treating yourself to an at home pedicure it is a great prepper and sloughs off the dead skin cells – leaving you with radiant fresh skin! The mix is nice and creamy, so your skin is not stripped after. I’m bad about moisturizing after the bath and my skin does not get flaky or irritated from being overtly dry from this product!

A true beauty junkie favorite! I recommend this to everyone and anyone who likes the feeling of the spa in the comfort of their own home! Order some, you will not regret it! My all time favorite scrub!

Italian Toothpaste

Posted in favorite, product review by fashionista514 on February 6, 2009

Marvis. Have you heard? Italian designer toothpaste as I’d like to call it. Could you think of a cooler idea than this? Upon my search for the perfect thought – provoking toothpaste (yes, I just said thought-provoking toothpaste), I stumbled upon the delectable and fresh flavours of Marvis Mint. Mmmmm… there seems to be something so demurely couture about their blends. Just the right amount of adventure matched to mint.

For the traditionalists there is the Classic Strong and Aquatic Mint. For the lovely ladies, Jasmin Mint. Finally, for the adventuresses out there, Paradise Fruit and Ginger Mint!

All flavours leave your mouth squeaky clean and wanting to smile. Go out and get ya some!

Erno Laszlo Skin Miracle!

Posted in Erno Laszlo, favorite, product review, skin by fashionista514 on February 6, 2009

I have been using Erno Laszlo products now for almost a year, and I can’t even begin to tell you how it has completely transformed my skin.

I have very acne prone skin and would always cover it up with massive amounts of makeup. Pretty yuck. Anyway, one day I was meandering around Holts and remembered a friend of mine had suggested I use a cleanser or mask with Alpha Hydroxy Acid to help deep clean away my blemishes. So, I asked a saleswoman at one of the counters if any of the cosmetics brands in the store carried that ingredient in any of their lines. Before I knew it, she had addressed my skin problem and was recommending a completely new regime. The Erno Laszlo splashing regime. I was skeptical. How many times have we all been sold a line of cosmetics or skin care that just does not deliver? At this point I had tried Proactiv, dermatologist prescribed antibiotics and topical serums, creams and peels. Every recommendation I had tried and was seriously beginning to consider Accutane. Now I know this is quite a leap, but I work and have my future in fashion and makeup. Really there is no place in my life (or time) for me to be worrying about what will appear on my face and cripple my confidence.

Somehow I trusted Tina the saleswoman. She wrote down my new regime (which was quite hard to get used to at first), and sent me on my way. The infamous Erno Laszlo splashing technique basically consists of filling your sink with hot water and splashing your soaped up and oiled face exactly twenty times with the same water. This technique treats your skin by treating it every time you splash. Then to finish up, splash ten more times with fresh hot water. The soap is made up of dead sea mud with mild exfoliants and lathers into a rich mask-like cleanser. Mixed with the oil (to take off makeup and coat your skin in essential oils), this combo proved to be unbeatable.

Within two weeks, my acne had altogether stopped. It honestly felt like a miracle! I thought it would control it, but cure it? Crazy! So now, I am a super loyal Erno Enthusiast who adores slowly trying the whole line cause everything truly delivers.

Dr. Laszlo was the original dermatologist skin doctor to develop a product line from popular demand after treating celebrity clients such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, and Greta Garbo. Hey, if it’s good enough for them I’m on board!

If you do happen to be a montrealer, you must go and see Tina herself at Holt Renfrew on the corner of Sherbrooke and De la Montagne. Not only has she worked for Laszlo for years, she is an amazing esthetician who gives very coveted facials! Make an appointment for a personalized skin care practice with her at 514-842-5111 and watch all your wildest beauty dreams come true!
